How to run it

  1. Explain to participants that you are going to show them a slide containing lots of words relating to the training topic you have been working on. You will only show this slide for 1 minute and they must try and remember as many of the words as possible (no writing down allowed).
  2. Show the slide for 1 minute and then hide it.
  3. Ask participants to write down as many words they can remember as possible.
  4. Ask participants to pair up (or small groups) to see how many words they can remember together. They will likely see that they recalled more words when they collaborated.
  5. Also ask if there were any words that participants ‘recalled’ but were not actually on the list. This can create a discussion around assumptions.
  6. Discuss why collaboration works better and other learning points.
  7. . Show the slide for 1 minute and then hide it.
  8. . Ask participants to write down as many words they can remember as possible.
  9. . Ask participants to pair up (or small groups) to see how many words they can remember together. They will likely see that they recalled more words when they collaborated.
