Choose this exercise
Purpose: Focus attention on careful reading and detail orientation before detailed analytical or procedural work.
Use it when: Use as a fast warmup after breaks or before sessions that require strict attention to written specifications.
Skip it when: Skip when participants are fatigued by reading tests, or when working in groups with wide variations in language fluency or print literacy.
Group arrangement: Individual work followed by whole-room answer check
Timing: Based on the 3-minute quiz from TrainerBubble, expanded to 10 minutes to allow clear distribution, scoring, and brief debrief.
Materials and tools
- One printed copy of the Ten Questions Worksheet per participant
- One pen or pencil per participant
- One copy of the Facilitator Answer Key for the facilitator
- A countdown timer visible to the room
Before participants arrive
- Print enough copies of the Ten Questions Worksheet for all participants.
- Place one worksheet face down on each desk along with a pen.
- Verify the timer is ready to run for exactly three minutes.
Say this to open
Please leave the paper face down on your desk. When I say start, turn it over. You have three minutes to answer ten short questions. Work on your own and read each question carefully. Start now.
How to run it
Introduce and begin 1 minutes
Instruct participants to leave sheets face down. Speak the opening script, start the three-minute timer, and signal participants to turn sheets over.
Complete quiz 3 minutes
Participants work silently and individually. Give a warning when one minute remains. Call time at three minutes and ask everyone to put pens down.
Review answers 4 minutes
Read each answer aloud using the Facilitator Answer Key. Participants score their own papers. Clarify any question text literally without debating trick interpretation.
Debrief observations 2 minutes
Ask two brief debrief questions to the room. Invite two or three volunteers to share what caused any missed items.
Debrief questions
- Where did speed cause you to misread a word or instruction?
- What habit helped you answer accurately under time pressure?
Finished output: Self-scored ten-question worksheet kept privately by each participant.
Remote
Distribute the worksheet as an online form or locked digital document via a direct link. Instruct participants not to open the link until told. Start the three-minute clock. Call time, close the form submissions or have them look at their screens, then share the answer slide on screen while reading answers aloud.
Hybrid
In-person participants receive physical sheets face down. Remote participants receive a digital link at the exact same moment. Both groups work silently under the shared timer. Read answers aloud so both room audio and remote audio hear each item simultaneously.
Access and participation choices
- Offer an audio read-aloud option or enlarged print for participants with visual or print processing needs.
- Scores are strictly private; participants may keep sheets face down during review and never need to disclose scores.
If the session gets stuck
- Participants turn over worksheets before the official start signal.
- Remind the room calmly that the sheet must stay face down until the timer starts so everyone has equal time.
- A participant argues about wording nuances or tricky interpretations.
- Explain that every question relies strictly on literal wording without hidden riddles, and move promptly to the next question.
Terms used here
- Face down: Placing a printed page with the printed text against the table surface so it cannot be read before starting.

Help me prepare and run the exercise below. First ask for my participant count, time, setting, access needs and intended result. Check these against the stated limits. Use the supplied rules and materials. Explain any proposed changes before using them, and label them as adaptations. Do not invent source claims or require personal disclosure. Give me one step at a time when I say start. I manage the people, physical activity and clock; do not claim to observe the room. Ask me what happened before choosing a next step.
