How to run it

  1. Gather your group to stand on one side of a large, wide playing space.
  2. Each person aims to run to the opposite side and back as many times as possible without being tagged.
  3. Invite a volunteer to stand in the middle of the space (the Octopus) whose goal is to tag as many of the rest of the group as they can.
  4. When ready, the Octopus will call “GO,” urging the group to run to the other side.
  5. Each person who is successfully tagged by the Octopus will become a part of the tagging team.
  6. New members of the tagging team will be restricted to tagging others from the spot where they were tagged.
  7. The original Octopus is entitled to move anywhere at any time.
  8. Play continues until all members of the group are tagged.
