United We Transform | Facilitator run sheet
2-Minute Test (UWT Question Set)
Participants race against a two-minute countdown to answer a sheet of literal comprehension prompts. They self-score their sheets against an answer key and examine how perceived time pressure shapes careful reading.
10 minutes | 4 to 24 people
Choose this exercise
Purpose: Compare participant accuracy under time pressure with calm verification to examine how rushing affects literal reading.
Use it when: Use before tasks that require detail verification, contract review, or careful reading of technical specifications.
Skip it when: Skip when members experience high test anxiety, or when people need a calm, reflective start rather than timed evaluation.
Group arrangement: Individual timed work, followed by self-scoring and whole-group reflection.
Timing: Extended from the 2-minute core quiz to 10 minutes to allow setup, individual scoring, and debrief.
Materials and tools
- One printed copy of the Question Sheet per participant
- One pen or pencil per participant
- One stopwatch or countdown timer visible to the room
- One printed Facilitator Answer Key for the facilitator
Before participants arrive
- Print enough Question Sheets for all attendees.
- Place one sheet face down at each seat with a pen.
- Verify the room countdown timer is ready.
Say this to open
Please keep your sheet face down on your desk. This is an individual two-minute exercise. Your goal is to answer each question accurately before the timer stops. Do not turn your sheet over until I say begin. I will announce time checks at one minute, thirty seconds, and fifteen seconds.
How to run it
Introduce the timed exercise 2 minutes
Explain the rules using the opening script. Emphasize that papers stay face down until the start cue. Check that every person has a working pen or pencil. Confirm everyone can hear your time calls.
Complete the sheet against the clock 2 minutes
Say 'Begin' and start the two-minute timer. Call out time remaining at one minute, 30 seconds, and 15 seconds. When the timer sounds, instruct everyone to lay pens down immediately and turn the sheet sideways.
Self-score the answers 3 minutes
Read out the solutions from the Facilitator Answer Key one by one. Ask participants to self-mark their own sheets. Remind everyone that sheets are personal and scores do not need to be revealed to the room.
Debrief reading under pressure 3 minutes
Facilitate a short group conversation about what caused slips or missed details during the test. Take two or three brief observations from volunteers. Connect their observations back to everyday workplace reading habits.
Debrief questions
- Which question caused a misread, and what word was skipped or assumed?
- How did the verbal time announcements change the way you read the prompts?
- What simple checkpoint can you use at work when reading complex directions under a tight deadline?
Finished output: Self-scored question sheets showing individual accuracy patterns under time constraints.
Remote
Distribute a password-protected PDF or send a digital form link that opens only when the facilitator says start. Participants mute microphones during the two-minute sprint. Post the answers in chat for private self-scoring, then run the debrief via video.
Hybrid
In-person attendees use face-down paper sheets while remote participants keep an online document unopened until the verbal start cue. Facilitator broadcasts time warnings verbally and via chat. All self-score privately and contribute to the debrief using raised hands or chat text.
Access and participation choices
- Provide large-print or screen-reader friendly digital copies on request.
- Participants may self-score in private without sharing their score or submitting the sheet.
If the session gets stuck
- A participant flips the page early or continues writing after time is called.
- Remind the room calmly that the activity is an experiment in personal pacing, not an accredited exam.
- Participants debate alternate interpretations of a question.
- Acknowledge the ambiguity briefly and point out that ambiguous wording is another common risk in rushed workplace reading.
Terms used here
- Literal reading: Following the exact, stated words on a page without making unwritten assumptions.

Sources and adaptation
Observed on TrainerBubble as a free energiser activity. Replacement quiz items provided by UWT.
Retained the two-minute timed individual quiz format, face-down paper distribution, specific countdown warnings (1 minute, 30 seconds, 15 seconds), and post-test review from TrainerBubble materials. Substituted UWT-authored literal reading questions and an answer key to replace the missing original proprietary question sheet. Added private self-scoring and non-disclosure options.
