United We Transform | Facilitator run sheet

Look Left

Participants rapidly shift their gaze or head direction in response to spoken directional prompts, returning to center between calls.

4 minutes | 4 to 24 people

Choose this exercise

Purpose: Re-engage attention and reset physical posture through quick, coordinated response to directional cues.

Use it when: During a virtual or hybrid meeting transition when the group needs a brief physical reset without leaving their seats.

Skip it when: When participants experience neck pain, vestibular sensitivity, or eye strain, or when the room requires quiet concentration.

Group arrangement: Whole group working simultaneously facing the camera or facilitator.

Timing: Playmeo outlines two 20 to 30 second rounds. UWT allocates 4 minutes to include briefing, demonstration, both rounds, and a brief reset.

Materials and tools

Before participants arrive

  1. Confirm participants are seated or standing comfortably with room to turn their head slightly.
  2. In remote settings, ensure gallery view is active so participants can see each other if they choose.

Say this to open

Let's do a quick physical reset called Look Left. I will call out directions like 'Left' or 'Right'. When you hear a direction, turn your head or gaze that way immediately, hold it for half a second, then return to looking straight ahead at your camera. Let's do a quick practice call: Look Right. Hold, and back to center.

How to run it

  1. Introduce and calibrate 1 minutes

Explain the rules using the opening script. Run one demonstration call each for 'Left' and 'Right'. Remind participants to move within a comfortable range of motion and return to the center screen after each cue.

  2. Run two-direction round 1 minutes

Call out 'Left' and 'Right' in random order for 30 seconds at a brisk pace, leaving about one to two seconds between cues. Participants turn, pause half a second, and snap back to center.

  3. Add vertical directions 1 minutes

Introduce two new commands: 'Up' and 'Down'. Run a 30 to 45 second round calling randomly among all four directions: Left, Right, Up, and Down. Vary the pace slightly to keep attention sharp.

  4. Wrap and refocus 1 minutes

Signal the end of the round. Ask one quick transition question and invite the group to settle back into the main agenda.

Debrief questions

Finished output: Completion of two rapid-response rounds by all participating members.

Remote

Run in gallery view. Participants keep cameras on if comfortable. The facilitator speaks clearly without background music so audio cues remain crisp.

Hybrid

In-person members face the main room camera or screen while remote members face their webcams. The facilitator stands where both groups can see and hear the calls.

Access and participation choices

If the session gets stuck

Audio lag causes remote participants to move out of sync.
Remind everyone that sync is not the goal. Each person responds immediately to when they hear the command on their end.
Participants twist their necks too forcefully.
Intervene immediately and remind everyone to use gentle, easy motions or shift their eyes instead of their neck.

Sources and adaptation

Observed on Playmeo, where it is listed as an activity by Mark Collard.

The core mechanic of calling directional head shifts (Left/Right, then Up/Down) is retained from Playmeo. UWT structured the timing into a clear 4-minute sequence, added gentle movement adaptations for accessibility, and established debrief questions.
