United We Transform | Facilitator run sheet
Eurovision Bingo
Participants watch Eurovision performances or clips and mark live show tropes on a randomized bingo card. The activity finishes when someone marks five squares in a row or when the viewing period ends.
15 minutes | 4 to 24 people
Choose this exercise
Purpose: Track common performance tropes during a broadcast or clip reel to sustain engagement during a viewing session.
Use it when: Use during a Eurovision broadcast, watch party, or social team session viewing contest clips.
Skip it when: Skip during working business meetings, deep analytical tasks, or groups unfamiliar with and uninterested in music television spectacle.
Group arrangement: Individual tracking in a shared viewing space
Timing: 15 minutes fits an introductory clip reel or sample segment; full live broadcasts run longer without facilitator intervention.
Materials and tools
- One unique Eurovision Bingo Card per participant (printed or digital)
- One pen, pencil, or marker per participant (if using paper cards)
- Video playback screen or shared stream with Eurovision clips or live broadcast
Before participants arrive
- Generate and print or digitally distribute randomized 5x5 bingo cards using the prompt pool.
- Queue 10 to 12 minutes of Eurovision performance clips or confirm the live broadcast stream is running.
Say this to open
Grab a bingo card and a pen. We will watch 10 minutes of Eurovision clips. As you spot classic staging moments or broadcast tropes, cross off that square. The center space is free for everyone. If you get five in a line horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, shout 'Bingo!'
How to run it
Distribute cards and explain rules 2 minutes
Hand out unique bingo cards and pens, or provide the digital card link. State the winning pattern (five in a row horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). Direct everyone to mark the center Free Space.
Broadcast viewing and tracking 10 minutes
Start the video reel or live broadcast. Participants watch quietly or react casually, marking matching squares as occurrences happen on screen. Example: If a performer has a sudden costume reveal mid-song, players mark 'Costume Change Mid-Song'.
Check claims and declare winner 1 minutes
If someone calls 'Bingo!', pause playback briefly to verify their line against the moments seen on screen. If multiple people hit bingo simultaneously, both win. If no one calls bingo by the time the timer rings, check who has the most marked squares.
Wrap up and debrief 2 minutes
Conduct a quick whole-room debrief on common production tropes observed. Collect cards or let players keep them for remaining watch party segments.
Debrief questions
- Which Eurovision trope did we spot the most frequently across these performances?
- Which prompt did you expect to see that never appeared?
- How did visual staging choices influence your memory of each song?
Finished output: Marked bingo cards with a verified five-square winning line, or a verified highest-mark result when the viewing limit ends without a line.
Remote
Share digital bingo card links prior to the meeting. Stream the video clips through screen sharing with system audio enabled. Remote participants type 'BINGO' into the chat and read out their winning line.
Hybrid
Ensure the video stream is displayed both on the room screen and through video call screen share. Remote players track digital cards on their devices; in-person players use paper or mobile cards. Remote and local claims are recognized equally in chat or spoken aloud.
Access and participation choices
- Participants may observe the video passively without marking a card.
- Enable closed captions on the video stream so lyric and dialogue cues are accessible.
- Provide large-print physical cards or high-contrast screen reader compatible digital versions.
If the session gets stuck
- Disagreement over whether a specific moment qualifies (for example, whether an outfit peel counts as a true costume change).
- Let the group take a quick ten-second majority thumbs-up vote, or rule generously in favor of the player.
- No one hits five in a row before the designated viewing block expires.
- Stop at the 10-minute mark and declare the winner based on the highest raw number of verified marks on a single card.
Terms used here
- Douze Points: Twelve points, the highest possible score awarded by a country's jury or public televote in Eurovision.
- Postcard Segment: A brief short film introducing the competing act before their stage performance, often showing sights from the host or artist country.
