# BlueStarOpoly

Teams navigate a large perimeter floor track by rolling dice and completing quick collaborative mini-tasks whenever they land on marked activity spaces. Groups aim to complete laps around the board while coordinating fast team challenges.

**Time:** 35 minutes. Source recommends 30 to 45 minutes; structured to 35 minutes for standard workshop delivery.
**People:** 4 to 24. 1 to 3 teams of 4 to 8 participants each

## Choose this exercise

**Purpose:** Complete cooperative mini-challenges under time constraints while managing turn-taking and movement on a shared floor track.
**Use it when:** Use during community gatherings, team offsites, or cohort retreats when participants need energetic physical movement and lighthearted collaboration.
**Skip it when:** Skip when room space is constrained, when noise must be minimized, or when participants prefer seated analytical tasks.

## Materials and tools

- 40 to 60 numbered paper squares (with every fourth square pre-marked 'ACTIVITY' and numbered 1 through 12)
- Painter tape to fix track squares to the floor
- 2 standard six-sided dice per team
- 1 distinct floor marker per team (such as a colored cone, beanbag, or plush mascot)
- 1 printed BlueStarOpoly Challenge Card Sheet per team plus 1 copy for the facilitator
- 1 digital countdown timer visible to the room

## Before participants arrive

1. Tape 40 to 60 numbered paper squares in a large clockwise perimeter loop on the floor. Ensure every fourth square is marked 'ACTIVITY' with a task number from 1 to 12.
2. Place a rolling station with two dice at each team designated starting point around the track.
3. Print enough copies of the BlueStarOpoly Challenge Card Sheet so each team and the facilitator have one copy.

## Say this to open

Welcome to BlueStarOpoly. Each team will move a marker clockwise around this floor circuit by rolling dice. If you land on an empty square, roll again immediately. If you land on an Activity square, check the task number printed on that square, read the matching challenge from your BlueStarOpoly Challenge Card Sheet, and complete it together before rolling again. Your goal is to complete up to three full laps around the track.

## How to run it

### 1. Form teams and assign stations (5 minutes)

Divide the room into 1 to 3 teams of 4 to 8 people. Hand each team one BlueStarOpoly Challenge Card Sheet, two dice, and a unique floor marker. Direct each team to an assigned starting station around the track. Point out the clockwise direction of play and confirm everyone can see the challenge numbers printed directly on the Activity squares.

### 2. Navigate the circuit (20 minutes)

Teams roll dice and advance their floor markers clockwise. On blank squares, the team immediately rolls again. On an Activity square, the team reads the matching numbered task from their sheet and completes it together before their next roll. If a challenge specifies a movement that someone chooses not to perform, that person acts as the team official judge, timekeeper, or caller. If two teams land on the same square, both complete the task side by side.

### 3. Conclude track movement (5 minutes)

Stop play when the first team completes three full laps or when the 20-minute timer sounds. Direct each team to retrieve their marker and return all dice and challenge sheets to the center table. Invite everyone to gather in a semi-circle around the board.

### 4. Debrief group coordination (5 minutes)

Lead a brief whole-room reflection on communication and role sharing under time pressure. Ask 2 or 3 participants to share specific observations on how their team handled fast decisions.

## Debrief questions

- Which challenge required your team to adapt its approach most quickly?
- How did your group decide who took active versus supporting roles during time-limited tasks?
- What practical habit helped your team stay organized while moving around the room?

**Finished output:** Teams navigate the circuit and complete cooperative mini-tasks, with completion measured by total laps logged.

## Remote

BlueStarOpoly relies on physical floor movement. To run online, use a shared digital whiteboard with an equivalent 40-space perimeter track and an online dice roller. Breakout groups move digital avatars. When landing on an Activity square, the team opens the assigned challenge card on their board, completes it on camera, and resumes rolling.

## Hybrid

Hybrid delivery is not recommended because remote participants become passive observers while in-person teams run the floor track. Run the game fully in-person using the floor track, or run it fully online using a shared digital board with all participants on individual screens.

## Access and participation choices

- Participants may serve as roller, card reader, judge, or caller if physical actions present barriers.
- Anyone may opt out of a specific physical task without disclosure by swapping into a coaching, timing, or counting role.

## If the session gets stuck

**Multiple teams land on the same Activity square simultaneously and cause congestion.**

Let both teams complete the challenge concurrently, or allow the second team to complete the next sequential challenge number.

**A team gets stuck on a challenge and loses momentum.**

Allow the team to take a 30-second pause, count the task as attempted, and continue rolling on their next turn.

## Terms used here

- Circuit: One complete lap around all numbered squares of the floor track.
- Activity Square: A track square marked with a number that directs the team to complete a matching task from the challenge sheet.

## Participant material: BlueStarOpoly Challenge Card Sheet

Activity 1: Human Sculptures. Form a frozen statue of a kitchen appliance as a group. Hold the pose for 10 seconds.
Activity 2: Alphabet Relay. Name 10 items visible in the room, with each consecutive item starting with an alternating vowel (A, E, I, O, U, A, E, I, O, U).
Activity 3: Team Rhythm. Create and perform an identical synchronized 4-beat clapping pattern together twice.
Activity 4: Category Speed. Name 15 distinct dog breeds out loud in 30 seconds.
Activity 5: Mirror Drill. Pair up within your team and mirror each other's arm and head movements smoothly for 15 seconds.
Activity 6: Silent Line-Up. Line up in order of shoe size from smallest to largest without speaking.
Activity 7: Group Balance. Everyone stand on one foot and count to 10 together out loud.
Activity 8: One-Word Story. Tell a coherent 12-word story where each team member contributes exactly one word in clockwise turn order.
Activity 9: Friendly Wave. Wave enthusiastically and exchange spoken greetings with every member of another team within 15 seconds.
Activity 10: Floor Geometric. Arrange the entire team into the clear perimeter shape of a five-pointed star using arms and legs while standing or seated.
Activity 11: Team Chant. Compose a simple two-line rhyming chant celebrating your team name and recite it together.
Activity 12: Reverse Count. Count backward from 40 to 1 as a group, alternating who speaks each number without hesitation.

## Sources and adaptation

Observed in Playmeo documentation attributed to Mark Collard.

Preserves Mark Collard's Playmeo core mechanic: a perimeter floor track with numbered squares, dice rolling, and small-group challenge stops. Reconstructed a complete 12-item task list to replace the missing paywalled template, clarified that activity numbers are pre-marked on the activity squares, harmonized remote board sizing to 40 spaces, and expanded group sizing down to a single team of 4.
