# Exercises for Retrospectives & Structured Reflection

Review actual experience, compare observations and draw lessons. Compare six formats ranging from a short debrief to a fuller project retrospective or field observation workshop.

Reflection on actual experience or observations is a main task and output here. The collection includes work retrospectives, personal reflection and structured learning from an activity; a brief debrief alone does not qualify an unrelated game.

## Choose a reflection format

Start with the experience you are reviewing and the time available. Choose a quick feedback harvest, individual closure, project review, work stories or direct observation.

### [Rose Debrief](https://unitedwetransform.com/exercises/simple-debrief-tool-to-process-group-experiences-rose-debrief/)

**10 minutes; 3 to 24 people.** Collect one success and one challenge after a shared activity, then notice common themes.

Use for a quick, balanced debrief. It does not provide root-cause investigation or private conflict mediation; sharing either element is optional.

### [Proud and Sorry](https://unitedwetransform.com/exercises/proud-and-sorry/)

**15 minutes; 4 to 24 people.** Review shared project successes and disappointments, then agree one practical adjustment per small group.

Participants need shared work history and basic conversational safety. Anyone may pass on sharing.

### [Gratitude Jar](https://unitedwetransform.com/exercises/mindful-reflection-activity-to-express-gratitude-gratitude-jar/)

**15 minutes; 4 to 24 people.** Capture concrete accomplishments and appreciated actions from a completed program in a personal keepsake.

Prepare a jar or container, paper strips and a pen for each person. Sharing stays optional; skip during a crisis or unresolved group conflict.

### [Team Retrospective](https://unitedwetransform.com/exercises/retrospectives-workshopbank/)

**60 minutes; 3 to 12 people.** Review a completed work cycle, discuss the main patterns and choose two or three changes with owners and checkpoint dates.

Use with a team that has completed shared work and can change its process. Skip when changes are already mandated or an active dispute needs mediation.

### [Narrative Workshop](https://unitedwetransform.com/exercises/narrative-workshop/)

**90 minutes; 6 to 24 people.** Compare specific work incidents across roles and turn the stories into shared obstacles, turning points and lessons.

Allow the full session for individual drafting and small-group sharing. Use a common focus and avoid acute crisis or hostile conditions; participants may offer a high-level process account or pass.

### [Simple Ethnography](https://unitedwetransform.com/exercises/simple-ethnography/)

**85 minutes; 4 to 24 people.** Observe real work, ask follow-up questions and compare evidence before identifying needs and opportunities.

Arrange host permissions, privacy and safety preparation in advance. This requires access to real work; it is unsuitable for a session limited to speculative brainstorming.

These are UWT selection suggestions based on the linked run sheets. Read each exercise's sources, adaptations and participation choices before running it.
